How To Apply

Entry Requirements

Hold a Level 3 qualification (NVQ Level 3, NNEB Diploma, BTEC National Diploma, Diploma in Child Care and Education) and having gained this qualification, have been employed (ideally for a minimum of two years) working with children, young people and families, or in a long term voluntary placement.

Usually be over 21 years of age.

Entry to this course requires a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.

Other qualifiactions or relevant experience may still be considered.

How Is The Course Delivered

This foundation degree is designed to offer appropriate education and training to professionals currently working within the Children and Young People's workforce but who lack a qualification at degree level.

Throughout the course there is an emphasis on the development of practical, personal and professional attributes required to promote the development of a world class workforce.  This includes knowledge of early years policy and pracitce, challenging assumptions, responding to different views and adopting collaborative ways of working with parents and other professionals.

The blended teaching and learning approach adopted by this foundation degree enables students to become digitally literate, share knowledge and reflect on practice.

It is taught on a flexible basis and allows students to undertake their studies around their working commitments.

How Will I Be Assessed

There is a strong focus on e-learning technologies to alongside more traditional assignment based work.

What Can I Do After The Course

In addition to the EYPS role, successful completion of this course could lead to teaching, social work, health education, early year's management, children's information services, play services and community family support work. It could also lead to a future role as an educational welfare officer or play therapist.

You could consider progression to the final stages of an Honours Degree at the University of Wolverhampton which may lead to primary teaching, via a PGCE or Graduate Teacher route.
